Reid Fleming is the world’s toughest milkman. He doesn’t take any shit from anyone. The comic strip, created by David Boswell, was an instant hit when he created it on a cold night in 1977.

I Thought I Told You To Shut Up! is the title of a short documentary about Reid Fleming and his creation, and about his creator, cartoonist David Boswell.

It features interviews and commentary from notable comedians and writers, such as Matt Groening (creator of The Simpsons), actor Kevin Pollack, Jonathan Demme, and many others.

Reid Fleming – The World’s Toughest Milkman became a hit with comic strip fans and was one of the few, probably the only, anti-hero characters. A person that never did the right thing, who was rude, insulting, and just didn’t care. And he had a square nose.

Creator David Boswell explains the origins of the comic strip, the highs and lows over the years, and the big mistake he made when he sold the movie rights to Warner Bros. (and why a movie still hasn’t been made).

The comic strip became so popular that bands made songs about Reid Fleming, people got Reid Fleming tattoos, and of course, there was a ton of merchandise out there with the tag line “I thought I told you to shut up!”.
